  • How to get started

What do you do if a student comes to a lesson sick and you are concerned for your health?

Sick Students..If we were to tell students to call us when they are sick and we won't charge them for a same day cancellation, 80% of your students will be calling in sick every 3rd week when they are actually going to a soccer game, etc. This is why we have a 24 hour cancellation policy in order for the student to request a makeup lesson. This policy prevents a last minute invite to the latest Batman movie from turning into a bad cold *cough* *cough*
Your students will end up coming to their lessons sick sometimes as they have to pay for them anyway.  This is just how teaching works whether you teach privately or in a public school.  Teachers are always exposed to sick students to some degree.  If you have a particularly sick student and are concerned for your own safety or the safety of the student here is the solution…
If you don't mind NOT getting paid for the lesson, SEND THEM HOME then call the school to tell us so we can arrange a makeup lesson:You won't get paid for the lesson that you sent them home on but you will for the makeup lesson.
Use this remedy very carefully and not very often as it will often upset the parent that brought the sick child all the way to the lesson just to have you dismiss them when our policy is clearly no last minute cancellations.

Only use this in unusual cases unless you want parents really upset with you.
