Guitar Lessons

Our guitar teachers teach rock, blues, metal, country and classical guitar lessons on electric and acoustic guitars. Beginner students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading, and theory. We balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson you are challenged with a new technical or theory concept, but always end with something fun such as your favorite riff or song. We use a variety of books and media to accomplish this and encourage students to bring CDs or their iPod to their lesson to learn their favorite tunes.

What is the best age to start learning to play the guitar?
Age 6 (first grade) is a good age for starting to learn the guitar: however a smaller student sized guitar is necessary at this age. We do recommend younger students start on the piano first for a year or two as this helps greatly with building basic skills in music. Some of the best early learners of music at Plymouth School of Music started learning on the Piano first and found it to be an easier transition to the guitar.
